Driver Caught, Charged After Hit-Run Crash In New Canaan

A driver has been charged after a hit-and-run crash in New Canaan, police say.

New Canaan Police received a complaint of a two-car motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Main Street and East Avenue on Friday, Dec. 21 around 1 p.m.

The police report stated that one of the vehicle’s operators, later identified as 53-year-old Robert James Terry of Hamden, allegedly failed to stop after the crash.

The complainant was able to follow Terry’s vehicle and obtain the license plate. Using this information, police obtained a warrant for Terry’s arrest.

Terry surrendered himself to New Canaan Police on Friday, Feb. 22 around 7 p.m. He was processed and charged with evading responsibility and traffic violations before being released on a PTA. He is scheduled to return to court on Friday, March 8.
